My Fiancé Sent Me To Another Man On Our Wedding Day Chapter 22

A murmur went through the crowd.

Her father’s face finally contorted with rage, and he lunged at her, his hand raised.

Before he could touch her, Hawthorne security seized his wrist.

At the same time, the police arrived.

Margot’s father kept trying to bluster his way out of it, but Margot seemed to have finally broken.

Clutching his shirt, she cried so hard she could barely speak.

“Didn’t you say you loved me most?”

“Didn’t you say that once the company was stable, you’d bring me home?”

“Shut up,” her father hissed.

“I won’t.”

She poured out everything—the beatings, the humiliation, the fear of the past few months.

At the end, she lifted a hand and pointed at her father.

“He sent me there. He knew I was being beaten, and he still wouldn’t let me come home.”

Her father, desperate, tried to shift the blame.

“I only did it for the family! If your mother hadn’t run the company into the ground, none of this would have happened!”

Margot’s mother, who had been lurking by the door, shrieked back.

“The debt to the Hawthornes was your fault! Now you’re blaming me?”

The two of them started screaming at each other in front of everyone.

The police separated them and took them away for questioning.

As he was being dragged out, Margot’s father was still shouting at me.

“Helena Ferraro, just you wait!”

I ignored him.

Once the hall was quiet again, Conrad took my hand.

“I’m sorry our daughter’s birthday ended up like this.”

“It’s not your fault.” I shook my head.

I watched as the police led Margot away to give her statement. I felt no satisfaction, no triumph.

She had stolen my work.

She had killed my cat.

She had worn my wedding shoes and flaunted them in my face.

I would never forget any of it.

But she should answer for her own cruelty, not be sold to pay for her parents’ mistakes.

Both things could be true.

Conrad seemed to read my thoughts, his fingers tightening around mine.

“The Bennett family’s debt will be settled according to the contract.”
