My Fiancé Swapped Places With His Twin At The Altar Chapter 14

The moment the words left her mouth, a sharp crack echoed through the room.

Mr. Moretti had backhanded Ashley across the face.

She clutched her cheek, staring at him in disbelief.

But he didn’t spare her a second glance. He turned back to me, forcing a smile.

“Ms. Cross, she’s young and doesn’t know any better. Please don’t take it to heart.”

“Moretti Group is willing to make further concessions. We hope Ryson will reconsider.”

He paused, his tone lowering even more.

“And as for what happened at the wedding, it was all a misunderstanding. The only daughter-in-law the Moretti family has ever truly recognized is you.”

I looked at the way he was groveling and felt no satisfaction.

Only a sense of the absurd.

So-called status, so-called respect—it wasn’t that they were incapable of giving it.

It was just that the old me had never been worth giving it to.

Mr. Moretti kept talking.

He humbled himself so much that he even brought up my old relationship with Matteo.

“You and Matteo were together for years. You can’t just cut things off like that.”

“He’s regretted it terribly these past few days. He was up all night worrying about your injuries.”

“Ms. Cross, for the sake of your history, give the Moretti family one more chance.”

“Otherwise, it won’t be easy for you to explain yourself to your superiors when you get back.”

That last line was a veiled threat.

Before I could speak, Chloe had already closed the file.

“Mr. Moretti, Ryson is not lacking for partners.”

She pressed the intercom button.

“Please send in security.”

Mr. Moretti’s face changed instantly.

“What is the meaning of this?”

Chloe smiled politely.

“It means you’re being shown out.”

A moment later, two bodyguards pushed open the door and entered.

Matteo’s expression was thunderous.

“Bianca, are you really going to take it this far?”

I said calmly, “I’m not the one taking it this far. Moretti Group simply doesn’t qualify.”

After the conference room door shut, the room was finally quiet.
