My Fiancé Swapped Places With His Twin At The Altar Chapter 23

My Fiancé Swapped Places With His Twin At The Altar Chapter 23

Three days after Moretti Group filed for bankruptcy protection, Matteo came to see me for the last time.

That afternoon, I had just finished a meeting when Chloe told me someone had been waiting downstairs for a long time.

I walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and saw Matteo standing in the snow.

He wasn’t holding an umbrella.

Snow dusted the shoulders of his black coat. He was much thinner now.

The sharp arrogance that came from a lifetime of being spoiled was gone.

At first, I didn’t want to see him.

But when he looked up, I suddenly felt that some things still needed to be said.

The reception room was warm.

He sat across from me, holding a cup of hot water in both hands, but he never took a sip.

“Bianca.”

His voice was very soft when he said my name.

I didn’t answer.

Matteo gave a bitter laugh.

“I always thought you would never leave me.”

“You had a bad temper, you got jealous easily, and you were controlling, but you had a soft heart.”

“Every time we fought, all I had to do was coax you a little, and you’d come back.”

As he spoke, his eyes slowly turned red.

“So on the wedding day, I took that risk.”

“I thought after it was over, I could just explain that I was trying to protect Ashley’s feelings.”

“I thought you’d make a fuss for a few days, at most.”

“I thought that if you loved me, you would forgive me.”

I looked at him and only felt tired.

“You didn’t think I would forgive you.”

“You just never thought my feelings mattered in the first place.”

Matteo’s face went even paler.

I continued, “Do you know what that wedding meant to me?”
