My Fiancé Swapped Places With His Twin At The Altar Chapter 25

I looked at him and said quietly, “Matteo, I believe you loved me once.”

He jerked his head up, a spark of hope returning to his eyes.

Then I continued, “But your love was cheap.”

“The moment Ashley cried, you could cast me aside.”

“You felt sorry for me, but in the end, you chose to hurt me just to prove you didn’t care.”

The small light in his eyes died.

Matteo’s throat worked. After a long time, he finally asked, “Is there really no chance for us?”

I looked out the window.

The snow had stopped, and in the distance, a path had already been cleared.

“No.”

He closed his eyes.

“What if I had understood sooner?”

I didn’t answer.

The question no longer meant anything.

Matteo stood.

When he reached the door, he stopped again.

“Is he good to you?”

I thought of the yard full of kittens, of the warm milk in the middle of the night, of the scarf Alessio had wrapped around my neck with his own hands beneath the northern lights.

I nodded.

“He’s very good to me.”

Matteo stood there for a long time without moving.

At last, he said quietly, “That’s good.”
