My Grandson’s Fiancée Called Me His Mistress Chapter 04

My Grandson’s Fiancée Called Me His Mistress Chapter 04

Banished from the Family Name

“Lucas! You do NOT talk to your grandmother that way!”

Lucas lowers his eyes. I understand without another word. He’s chosen her over me.

Fair enough. We were never especially close. I can hardly blame him for choosing the woman he loves over an old relative he barely knows.

“It’s fine. I respect your choice.”

He blinks, clearly not expecting me to give in so easily. Everyone in this city knows my reputation: cold, ruthless, and decisive. Even his father’s proposals are rejected without hesitation when I disagree.

“And, Nonna, once I’ve sorted things out with Sera, I’ll come see you properly.”

“Until the wedding, maybe… stay at the guesthouse. Just for now. Don’t come to the main house.”

Before he came here, Sera threatened to slit her wrists if I showed my face at the wedding. And for her, Lucas is willing to throw away the woman who raised half this family from nothing.

He doesn’t even have the decency to look me in the eye while he says it.

I shake my head, disappointed all over again.

How did Vincent’s own blood turn out so spineless? A man who can’t stand behind his decisions doesn’t deserve to run an empire. His own people will tear him apart.

“Fine. I’ll agree to your terms. But understand this: the next time you come looking for me, you will no longer be a Moretti grandson.”

“Do you understand what I’m telling you?”

I keep mostly to myself these days. If my son and his wife hadn’t practically dragged me out to meet this future bride, I’d be at the club right now, cleaning out my old friends at the poker table.

Lucas goes pale. He knows exactly what I mean. I’m cutting him off from the family.

Still, for Sera, he nods.

What he doesn’t understand is that his wedding was never going to draw a crowd because he’s a Moretti grandson.

Every person on the guest list is coming to see me, the woman who once ran this city’s underworld with an iron fist.

Watching him fall this hard for a girl like her, my son finally gives up trying to talk sense into him. He looks at Lucas for a long moment.

“You’re going to regret this.”

On the wedding day, the city’s underworld elite pack the ballroom. Sera glides among them in a custom gown with her arm through Lucas’s, working the room as if she were born to it.

“Congratulations, Mrs. Moretti. Wishing you two nothing but happiness.”

She clinks glasses, barely gets a thank you out before the next guest leans in.

“Where’s Donna Victoria tonight? Is she unwell? I’ve been waiting years to meet her. The stories about that woman are legendary. Would you introduce us?”

Every head within earshot turns toward the happy couple.

Sera loves the attention. Half the reason she’s here is to win support for her father’s failing business. She smiles and scans the room for me, but when she comes up empty, she grabs Lucas’s arm in sudden panic.

“Where’s your grandmother? She’s not coming? On a night like this?”

Lucas blinks at her, confused. “You told me you didn’t want her here. So I told her to stay home. Rest.”

The room goes dead silent.
