My Guardian Married My Sister But I’m His Alpha Chapter 64
She hadn’t forgiven her.
But she was no longer consumed by the hate.
The grievance she had carried for more than a decade had finally lightened, just a little, over a bowl of soup that had come far too late.
The next morning, she went to St. Michael’s Cemetery.
The gravestone had been repaired. At its base, two names were carved.
Chiara and Francesca.
Simply her father’s two daughters.
Chiara brought the letter her father had written, struck a match over the memorial brazier, and watched the pages curl, blacken, and turn to ash.
If her father could see, he would know that it was finally over.
Anthony was under Council investigation, and Chiara had reclaimed her seat.
Her father had not approved of Griffin as his son-in-law.
But Griffin had protected Moretti Holdings and the Nightfall Pack in his name for three years.
He had not wanted Griffin near Chiara.
Yet Griffin had never truly left her side.
Griffin stood behind Chiara, placing a bouquet of white lilies before the gravestone.
There was already another bouquet there.
Fresh, with water droplets still clinging to the petals.
Perhaps Francesca had come earlier.
As they walked back down the hill, the sun broke through the clouds.
Griffin held Chiara’s hand, his pace matching hers.
Halfway down, he stopped suddenly.
“When I was eight, the first time you came to the Pack estate, you hid behind your nanny. I gave you an orange candy.”
He turned to look at her, a faint, easy smile finally reaching his eyes.
“I remember thinking, when this little girl grows up, I’m going to protect her forever.”
Chiara raised an eyebrow.
“Protecting someone and marrying them aren’t the same thing. And you’ve only just started to learn not to make my decisions for me.”
Griffin blinked, then laughed.
“You’re right.” He tightened his hold on her hand, but not possessively. “Then let me rephrase.”
“I started wanting to protect you when I was eight. I fell in love with you after you grew up. And now, I’m going to start by learning how to stand beside you.”
Below them, Nightfall territory spread out in the sun.
It was the home Chiara had reclaimed in her own name.
She looked at Griffin, then out at the distant Pack House, and finally smiled.
“Then we start today.”
The words had barely left her mouth when her phone vibrated.
A formal notice from the Inter-Pack Council.
Anthony Russo was refusing to admit to any charges and was demanding a public hearing. In his appeal, he challenged every piece of evidence Griffin had submitted, and he challenged Chiara’s right to her restored inheritance seat.
The first name on the witness list was Francesca Moretti.
The hearing was in two days.
The smile on Griffin’s face slowly faded.
“I’ll handle it.”
Chiara put her phone away and shook her head.
“No.”
She looked down at the territory below them.
“This time, I’ll handle it myself.”
