My Mother’s Perfect AI Lied And Left Me For Dead Chapter 07

Not long after, a medical examiner’s investigator arrived.

She pulled on gloves and checked my pupils, neck, and limbs, then carefully lifted the hem of my old T-shirt. She saw the fresh bruise on my side, the abrasions on my calves, and older bruises in various stages of healing.

When she stood up, her expression was grave.

“Based on postmortem findings and the temperature inside the vehicle, she’s been dead for more than twenty-four hours. We’ll need an autopsy for a definitive cause of death, but the preliminary signs point to sudden cardiac failure.”

Mom let out a scream.

“That’s impossible! I took her for annual checkups. Her heart has always been normal. She wears a monitoring device I personally calibrated for her every day. You must be mistaken.”

The investigator frowned.

“A structurally normal heart does not mean a child cannot suffer a fatal arrhythmia. Prolonged fear and continuous pain can also cause stress-related damage to the heart muscle.”

She pointed to my clenched hands and bitten lip.

“This child was under severe distress before her death. There is no way she didn’t complain of pain.”

Mom suddenly remembered the platform.

I had been clutching my chest, backing away.

“Mom, my heart hurts. It really hurts.”

She had heard me. She had just decided I was lying again.

Mrs. Ramirez wiped her tears and walked over to the officer.

“Officer, Morgan used to clutch her chest a lot. A few times I saw her crouched down in pain in the elevator. I told her to tell her parents and have them take her to a doctor.”

“Every time, she’d just smile at me and say her mother wouldn’t believe her.”

Mrs. Ramirez looked toward my body.

“She was a polite child. If I had trouble with my trash, she always helped me take it to the recycling room. She greeted all the neighbors. But Dr. Ashford always told people she was a liar, that she liked hurting herself to manipulate adults.”

“This isn’t discipline. It’s abuse.”

Hearing those words, Mom lost control.

“You don’t know her! She lies—that’s what she does! I’m her mother. I know better than anyone what kind of person she is!”

Then her gaze landed on Ava, as if she had finally found her savior.
