My Racer Chose Her So I Canceled Our Wedding Chapter 02
He Remembered Everything About Her
I had almost reached the edge of the rally grounds when Adrian caught up with me.
“Lena.”
He touched the top of my head like nothing had happened.
“Where are you going? Everyone’s waiting. The victory dinner’s starting.”
“I’m not going.”
His expression tightened.
“You’re upset because I didn’t choose you?”
I looked at him.
He sighed impatiently.
“I already explained. Once we’re married and public, you can sit beside me whenever you want.”
There it was again.
Later.
“Right now I’ve got the press, the team, sponsors, a hundred things to deal with. Everyone else understands that. Why can’t you?”
Everyone else.
I didn’t need to ask who he meant.
Adrian took my wrist and led me back before I could argue.
By the time we entered the private dining room, dinner was already on the table.
Sienna sat between several members of the team.
Two seats were empty.
Adrian walked straight to the one beside her.
I took the other.
“Lena, where were you?” one of the drivers asked. “Adrian was looking everywhere for you.”
“Nowhere. Just walking.”
“Lena, are you angry with me?” Sienna asked.
I hadn’t even answered when she continued.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have accepted the Champion’s Ride. If it bothers you this much, I’ll stay away from Adrian outside races.”
She started to stand.
Two teammates immediately told her to sit down.
Adrian put a hand on her shoulder.
Then he looked at me.
“Lena. Be reasonable.”
I hadn’t said a word.
“Sienna is my co-driver. We race together. Me inviting her isn’t some betrayal. Don’t turn this into something bigger than it is.”
A teammate quickly changed the subject.
A platter of lobster was placed in front of us.
Adrian pulled one toward himself and began cracking the shell.
He placed the meat neatly onto Sienna’s plate.
When he noticed me watching, he actually explained.
“She hates dealing with the shells.”
“Oh.”
Years ago, the first time Adrian had dinner with my family, he’d insisted on doing the exact same thing for me.
He’d cut his finger on the shell and laughed while my father handed him a bandage.
“I’ll take care of her,” he’d promised.
“I just haven’t won enough yet to give her everything she deserves.”
He had won plenty since then.
Apparently, someone else had become the person who deserved it.
A bite went down wrong and I started coughing.
Adrian frowned.
“Slow down.”
He patted my back, then automatically reached for a glass and placed it in front of me.
“Drink.”
I stared at the pale yellow liquid.
Lemonade. Sienna’s favorite.
I didn’t touch it.
Adrian frowned.
“What?”
“I’m allergic to lemon.”
