Reborn I Refused The Mafia Husband Who Buried Me Alive Chapter 04
Three Families Came for Me
“Yes,” Adrian says.
“And you still came back for me?”
“Because we can do it right this time.”
I stare at him.
“You buried me alive.”
“And I won’t make that mistake again.”
That’s when I understand.
He doesn’t regret the thirty years before my death.
He still wants Isabella. He still wants me. He still wants the eight children I gave him.
The only thing Adrian wants to change is the ending.
When I return to my room, Lena is waiting for me.
Before I can speak, voices erupt in the hall.
I step outside.
Two of Isabella’s attendants have Lena pinned against the wall.
One twists her arm behind her back while the other raises a hand to hit her again.
“Stop.”
Lena’s lip is bleeding.
Isabella sits nearby, pale and perfectly composed.
“Your girl has forgotten how to behave,” she says.
“What did she do?”
“She was disrespectful.”
Lena shakes her head.
“I wasn’t.”
Isabella’s expression hardens.
“Are you calling me a liar?”
In my first life, I would have apologized.
I would have begged Isabella not to get upset.
Not anymore.
I walk over and pull Lena away from them.
“If you have a problem with someone who works for me, you come to me.”
“You’re still a Moretti, Elena. Nothing in this house belongs to you.”
“Then why are you so worried about what I have?”
Adrian came back different.
Isabella sees it too.
In our first life, she never had to compete with me. Adrian made it clear from the beginning that she came first.
This time, he’s giving up territory to keep me.
And Isabella hates it.
Then Adrian appears at the end of the hall.
Isabella’s knees buckle.
Of course she does.
“Isabella!”
He catches her before she hits the floor.
She clutches his shirt.
“Don’t blame Elena. I shouldn’t have said anything.”
Adrian looks at me.
For a second, I expect the same accusation I heard a hundred times in my last life.
Instead, he looks at Lena’s swollen face.
“What happened?”
Isabella stiffens.
I tell him.
He doesn’t immediately defend her.
“I’ll find out who started it.”
Isabella stares at him.
Adrian lifts her into his arms.
“You need a doctor.”
As he carries her away, she looks back at me.
I take Lena upstairs and clean the blood from her mouth myself.
In my first life, Lena stayed with me until the end.
When Adrian’s men came for me after Isabella died, she threw herself in front of them.
They beat her until she couldn’t stand.
The last time I saw her, she was crawling toward my coffin.
This time, she lives.
That night, Adrian sends boxes to my room filled with things I loved in our last life.
Things nineteen-year-old Adrian shouldn’t know I want.
I don’t open any of them.
Across the hall, Isabella and Adrian start arguing.
“You humiliated me.”
“I’m marrying you.”
“Then why are you trying so hard to keep her?”
Then Adrian says, “This isn’t about you.”
It is the worst thing he could have said.
Five days later, the wedding arrives.
Lena looks out the window.
Then she goes still.
“Elena.”
“What?”
“You need to see this.”
Three convoys are parked outside the Moretti estate.
The first belongs to the DeLucas.
Adrian steps out of the lead car.
The second bears the Russo crest. Dante Russo, heir to one of the most heavily armed families in the Midwest, steps out.
The third belongs to the Romanos. Julian Romano steps out next. His family controls more legitimate money than half the Commission combined.
My father storms into the foyer.
“What the hell is going on?”
Dante smiles. “I’m here for Elena.”
Julian adjusts his cuff.
“So am I.”
“She’s coming with me.”
He looks at my father.
“Change the agreement. Elena becomes my wife. I’ll work something else out with Isabella.”
My father stares at him.
“You don’t get to rewrite an alliance on the wedding day.”
Adrian steps toward me.
“Elena. Come with me.”
Before I answer, another line of black SUVs turns through the gates.
Every conversation stops.
Men wearing the Morelli insignia step out.
The man in front walks into the house and hands my father a sealed document.
A notice bearing Vittorio Morelli’s seal—and the signatures of three Commission families.
The man turns to me.
“Elena Moretti is under Morelli protection. Any attempt to force her into the DeLuca alliance will be treated as an act against us.”
Then he looks at Adrian, Dante, and Julian.
“Which means none of you gets to decide who she marries.”
