Reborn I Refused The Mafia Husband Who Buried Me Alive Chapter 05

My Family Lost Control of Me

The whispers spread through the room.

Adrian DeLuca had spent years secretly involved with Isabella Moretti.

Now, on the day he was supposed to marry her, he was standing in her father’s house demanding her younger sister instead.

Even by Mafia standards, it looked bad.

Dante doesn’t bother hiding his amusement.

Julian does.

Adrian ignores them.

He looks only at me.

“Elena, you can’t seriously be considering this.”

“Considering what?”

“Walking away from us.”

My father steps forward.

“This wedding is happening. The Morettis and DeLucas have an agreement.”

The Morelli representative looks at him.

“Your agreement with the DeLucas is your problem.”

“Elena is my daughter.”

“Not for the purpose of this alliance.”

“She was my wife for thirty years,” Adrian says.

Everyone looks at him.

My father says, “What the hell are you talking about?”

Adrian doesn’t seem to realize how insane he sounds.

“We had eight children.”

Isabella has just entered the foyer.

“Adrian.”

He doesn’t look at her.

“Five sons. Three daughters. Elena was with me for thirty years.”

Someone laughs nervously.

Another person mutters that Adrian must be drunk.

Only I know he’s telling the truth.

My father grabs his arm.

“Enough.”

DeLuca men move in as well.

The scandal has already gone too far.

Adrian is supposed to marry Isabella today. The alliance between the families depends on it, and he has just announced in front of half the city’s most powerful families that he wants her sister.

His father steps close to him.

“You will finish what you started.”

Adrian jerks his arm free.

“I want Elena.”

The DeLucas eventually drag Adrian away.

Isabella leaves with them.

The wedding will go forward.

Just not with me.

I turn to leave.

My father blocks my path.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“With Don Morelli’s people.”

“You are not leaving this family.”

The Morelli representative removes another document from his jacket.

“Actually, she is.”

Under Vittorio’s agreement, the Morettis can no longer use me in any marriage deal or family alliance.

More importantly, Morelli protection means my father cannot simply send men after me and drag me home.

My stepmother rushes forward.

“Elena, we raised you.”

“You did.”

“Then how can you humiliate us like this?”

I look at her.

“I’ll repay everything.”

“What?”

“Food. School. Clothes. Medical expenses. Whatever number makes you comfortable.”

My father slams the document onto the table.

“You think money erases blood?”

“No.”

“But blood didn’t stop you from selling my life.”

Lena brings down the bags we packed days ago.

I take nothing the Morettis gave me except my own clothes.

At the door, Dante steps aside.

Julian does too.

Neither tries to stop me.

Adrian isn’t there.

For the first time in two lives, I walk out of my father’s home because I chose to.

A Morelli car waits outside.

Lena gets in beside me.

As the gates close behind us, she finally exhales.

“We’re really leaving.”

“Yes.”

Vittorio Morelli didn’t save me because he felt sorry for me.

Men like him don’t give away protection for free.

I bought my freedom from the most powerful Don in the city.

Now I have to pay for it.
