Reborn Rupture Chapter 08
I had thought that might finally buy me a few days of peace.
Instead, over the weekend, Mrs. Romano showed up at our door with a fruit basket, insisting on inviting my family over for dinner.
My mom whispered to me, “This can’t be good. Don’t go.”
But Mrs. Romano was blocking the doorway, speaking so loudly that our next-door neighbors could hear every word.
“Mrs. Bennett, I know I was wrong before. I completely misunderstood Virginia. ”
“I even made her favorite ribs today as an apology. We’re neighbors, after all. It’s better if we can all get along.”
With her putting on such a performance, the neighbors started peeking out of their windows and chiming in.
“Well, it’s good that it’s all out in the open now.”
“Neighbors shouldn’t hold grudges.”
My parents exchanged a weary look and felt they had no choice but to agree.
At the dinner table, Mrs. Romano kept piling food onto my plate.
I had only taken two bites when she started.
“The truth is, I only found out on Friday… Matteo has been secretly dating someone.”
I was a little surprised. This was a very different attitude from the one she’d had in my last life.
“Matteo’s girlfriend… her family is very well-off,” she went on.
“Her parents are in business. I heard they make more in a month than we do in a whole year.”
Mrs. Romano’s smile was so wide it crinkled her entire face.
“And she’s smart, too. Her GPA last semester was a perfect 4.0. ”
“If I recall, Virginia only made the top ten in the grade back then, right? This son of mine… if he wanted to date, that’s fine. ”
“But to keep it from me and let me embarrass myself like that.”
