Reborn Rupture Chapter 09
Last semester…
I remembered it all at once.
In my last life, it wasn’t that I’d never had feelings for Matteo.
We’d grown up together. I was small for my age, and some of the boys in our class used to pick on me.
Matteo was always the one who stepped in.
Back then, it would have been hard not to fall for him.
I bought him breakfast, gave him presents.
When he mentioned liking a certain band, I stayed up all night fighting a crashing website to snag him a limited-edition T-shirt.
I wasn’t the type to imagine things.
Over the years, if he hadn’t said things like “I miss you,” or “I wish you were here,” or
“You’re the only one who understands me,” I never would have let myself get the wrong idea.
At the end of that semester, I had been planning to talk to him, to suggest we both aim for the Ivy League together.
Instead, I saw him with my own eyes, kissing another girl in the park gazebo.
I barely slept that night.
The next day, I bombed my final exam.
There was one other thing.
Mrs. Romano said the girl had a 4.0 GPA?
I remembered very clearly that on the honor roll for last semester, only one person had a perfect 4.0: a boy named Ethan Parker.
“Mrs. Romano,” I said, setting down my fork. “The person you said had a 4.0 GPA… was that Krystal?”
Mrs. Romano looked smug.
“Of course! Matteo showed me the school honor roll himself. How could it be wrong?”
My mom couldn’t help but speak up.
“Mrs. Romano, are you sure you’re not mistaken? I remember the student with the 4.0 was a boy.”
“How is that possible!”
