Revenge On My Feet Chapter 09
Three months later, WU landed a new project.
The partner company was based in Boston.
Yvonne set the files on my desk.
“The partner is Renwick Group.”
“You know Boston, and you understand the business environment there. I’d like you to lead this project.”
“Are you willing to take it on?”
It was the first time she had handed me a project this big.
I knew the opportunity was enormous, and so were the risks.
Even so, I signed the document.
“I’ll take it.”
Yvonne nodded.
“Good. I’ll be waiting for your results.”
The day I arrived in Boston, I took my colleagues out to dinner in the North End.
I chose an old Italian restaurant.
It was the first restaurant Grayson had ever taken me to.
When I started my freshman year, he treated me to dinner there and promised we’d come every year to celebrate how far I’d come.
In the end, he only came with me twice.
After that, I missed two years because of my health. But he brought Renata there on his own.
A colleague thumbed through the menu, caught me staring at one particular dish, and smiled.
“What is it? Thinking of someone?”
I came back to the present and smiled back.
“I guess you could say that.”
Another colleague asked,
“You went to college here, right?”
“This place must be pretty special to you.”

I closed the menu.
“It influenced me a lot.”
“A lot of my decisions were made with this place in mind.”
When we were settling the bill, the owner recognized me.
“You’re Nadia, right? Your brother has been coming here a lot lately.”
“He said that if you ever came back, you’d probably come to this restaurant.”
“I asked him why he didn’t just call you. He just said he’d done something wrong.”
“He works nearby. Do you want me to give him a call?”
I took out my credit card and handed it over.
“No.”
“And if he comes again, please don’t tell him I was here.”
From the day he chose to stand with Renata, I stopped seeing him as someone I could lean on.
