Revenge On My Feet Chapter 10
I left the restaurant with my colleagues.
Just as we reached the entrance, a familiar voice sounded behind me.
“Did she come in tonight?”
It was Grayson.
The owner paused.
“No. Haven’t seen her today.”
I didn’t look back. I led my colleagues straight to the hotel the company had booked for us.
The next day, I went to Renwick Group.
I was only there to discuss the project. The last thing I expected was to see Desmond.
He was now Mr. Renwick’s executive assistant.
And I was the client he was scheduled to meet that day.
When he saw me, he froze.
A few seconds later, he turned and slipped away into the employee break room.
That afternoon, the person assigned to meet with me was swapped out for someone else.
I knew he didn’t want to face me under these circumstances.
But after the project meeting wrapped up, he still came looking for me.
He stood in the hallway, watching me.
“Are you happy, seeing me like this?”
Desmond stood there, his hands clenched into tight fists, his eyes red.
I looked at him, my tone even.
“No.”
“How you’re doing has nothing to do with me anymore.”
His breathing was heavy, as if he were fighting to hold back a wave of feeling.
“Do you have to be so cold?”
“I admit it. Renata and I were wrong about a lot of things.”
“I’ve done a lot of thinking. I know I was wrong.”
“But why won’t you even give me a way to contact you?”
“Why won’t you give me a chance to start over?”
“Think about it. Was I never good to you?”
“When you first got your prosthetic, who was it that stayed by your side?”
“Was all of that fake?”
I looked at him and answered honestly.
“Some of it was real.”
“But the harm was real, too.”
“I came back to Boston for work, not to rehash the past.”
“If Mr. Renwick didn’t ask you to come find me, then I’m leaving.”
I turned to go.
But Desmond suddenly grabbed my wrist.
