She Framed Me As Unfit So I’ll See Her In Court Chapter 37

When Sloan took the stand, she looked much thinner than before.

She and Caleb sat on opposite sides of the aisle, refusing to look at each other.

Her lawyer began. “Ms. Mercer, who first raised the idea of seeking custody of Maya?”

“Caleb.”

“Who told you that if CPS created a record, custody would be easier to obtain?”

Sloan lifted her head.

“Him, too.”

Caleb shot to his feet.

“You’re lying!”

The gavel crashed down.

“Mr. Carter, sit down.”

Sloan flinched at his shout, then gripped the edge of the witness stand.

“He froze my cards and threatened that I’d never see my own child if I didn’t help him get Maya.”

Her lawyer displayed the chat messages about financial control on the screen.

Those words were there.

But when it was my lawyer’s turn, he asked only one question.

“Who was the one who made Nia’s address public?”

Sloan’s lips went white.

“I was.”

“Who edited the video?”

“I did.”

“Who sent Beth the fake ad website and the text template?”

She closed her eyes.

“I did.”

“Who directed Beth to place the alcohol bottle in Maya’s backpack?”

Tears rolled down her face.

“I did.”

My lawyer took one step back.

“What Caleb did—controlling you and threatening you—is his responsibility. What you did—pressing send again and again, using a child—is yours. No one is asking you to bear his crimes for him.”

“And you cannot ask Nia to bear yours for you.”

Sloan lowered her head and said nothing more.

Caleb wanted to shove everything onto Sloan.

Sloan wanted to use what Caleb had done to her to offset what she had done herself.

But on the same screen, the words they had each left behind pinned both of them where they stood.
