The Annoying Sleepwalker Chapter 10
Tessa held her iPad, her expression dark.
“All my work is on there.”
“What if it can’t be recovered?”
Genevieve was even more direct.
“The school logs all its equipment. If something is damaged, it gets charged back.”
“There’s no getting out of this.”
Blair looked at them, and slowly, the expression in her eyes changed.
It filled with hatred.
I knew that look all too well.
Last time, every time I refused to back down, she looked at me with that exact expression.
As if she were the one being wronged.
Ms. Albright told us to submit a list of all the damages.
I put mine together quickly.
Photos of the laptop from the first incident. The repair estimate. The data recovery order.
The voice note where Blair admitted she’d “sleepwalked” and broken it.
Screenshots of Tessa and Mallory telling me to let it go.
Photos of the damaged iPad, headphones, mirror, and camera from the second incident.
Records showing the items had been lent to me.
Purchase receipts.
And a timeline I compiled myself.
By the time Ms. Albright finished reading, her expression had visibly hardened.
“You’re saying on both occasions, she went only to your desk?”
I nodded.
“Yes.”
Blair immediately shrieked, “She did it on purpose!”
“She deliberately put other people’s expensive things on her desk to trick me into breaking them!”
I smiled.
“How did I do anything to you?”
“Did I force you out of bed in the middle of the night?”
“Did I grab your hand and make you smash things?”
“Or can I somehow predict that when you sleepwalk, you will only ever target my desk?”
Blair opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Ms. Albright rubbed her forehead.
“Enough. Stop arguing.”
“The student life office will be stepping in.”
“Blair, you need to contact your parents today.”
By noon, the story had spread.
Not because of me.
Because Blair posted on Yik Yak first.
She wrote it like a tragedy.
“I have a sleepwalking problem.”
“My roommate knew I couldn’t control it.”
“And she deliberately put other people’s valuables on her desk for me to break.”
