The Day I Went Silent Chapter 12
Julian had been in a daze for several days.
He locked himself in the villa, drinking bottle after bottle.
He was completely immersed in his own world, roaring at his assistant to get out whenever he came looking for him, until Oliver stumbled in to find him.
Julian looked up, the alcohol in his system sobering up a bit at the sight of the bruises all over the boy’s face. “What happened?”
Oliver kept sobbing, his head lowered, refusing to speak.
Julian kept pressing him, but Oliver just cried and asked, “Is Mom really never coming back?”
He froze for a moment before realizing that Oliver was referring to Olivia.
For three whole years, Olivia had given everything, yet she couldn’t even get a smile out of Oliver.
Now that she was gone forever, Oliver was finally willing to acknowledge her.
“Oliver, talk to me. Who did this to you?”
Oliver just let his tears fall in heavy drops.
The answer was actually quite obvious. Oliver was Oliver, and only a handful of people could lay a hand on him.
Julian closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, his gaze was icy cold. “It was Chloe, wasn’t it?”
Oliver kept his head down and didn’t speak, but his expression had already answered the question.
Julian grabbed him and walked straight out, having the driver take them to Chloe’s apartment.
Loud voices could be heard from inside.
Chloe was chatting with her best friend, her tone arrogant: “I just wanted to force Olivia to leave. Who knew she would just drop dead?
I guess she just had bad luck.”
“It’s only a matter of time before I marry into the Vance family.”
Her best friend asked, “If you want to marry Julian so badly, why did you divorce him back then?”
Chloe laughed. “Of course it was because I couldn’t stand the nitpicky rules of a rich and powerful family, and I didn’t want to raise a brat.
These past few years, I’ve had money and free time, and with Olivia looking after the kid like a nanny, I’ve been living the dream.”
“If Oliver’s attitude toward Olivia hadn’t started to waver, I could have played around for a few more years.”
“That ungrateful little brat, he doesn’t even consider whose womb he came out of.
Olivia serves him for a few years and he forgets who he is, bah.”
Julian tightened his grip on Oliver’s hand.
He could feel Oliver trembling all over.
Having dated her for years and been married to her, he had a rough idea of what kind of person Chloe was.
Proud, reckless, and free-spirited.
He just never expected her to think of Oliver this way.
This was her own biological child. How could she treat him like a mere tool.
Chloe was still pressuring Olivia?
What exactly did she do to Olivia?
When Olivia lost her life high up in the sky, what kind of emotions was she feeling?
Oliver started crying again, asking Julian in despair, “Olivia was the only one who was good to me, wasn’t she?
The mom who treated me well is never coming back, is she?”
Julian couldn’t answer.
Carried away by her own arrogance, Chloe continued: “Olivia was shameless enough. I used Oliver to get rid of her baby, and even had Oliver throw acid in her face, but she still refused to get a divorce…”
Julian’s ears rang, and he felt the string in his mind completely snap.
He kicked the door open, strode inside, and grabbed Chloe by the collar. “What did you say?
You were the one who killed that child?”
Chloe froze, panic flashing in her eyes. “No, Julian, listen to me…”
Oliver stood quietly to the side and suddenly said, “Yes.”
“Mom made me go.”
“She said if I got a little brother, Dad would never like me again.
That’s why I…”
Unable to suppress his inner fury, Julian raised his hand high: “Chloe, how could you be so vicious.”
Chloe shot a fierce glare at Oliver, her eyes brimming with disgust and resentment.
At this point, she didn’t care anymore, looking provocatively at Julian: “Don’t you know what I’m really like?”
“That’s right, I did it all. So what?”
“You only have yourself to blame.
You failed to protect your wife and only had eyes for me.
If Olivia were still alive, she would definitely hate you more than she hates me.”
Julian choked on his words.
He couldn’t refute it.
Olivia had suffered so much, and wasn’t it all because of him?
He was the real culprit.
Chloe smirked: “What, did I hit a nerve?
If you’re going to hit me, do it. Stop hesitating.”
She remained completely fearless, a defiant gleam in her eyes.
It was exactly the look he had always loved.
Julian stood frozen for a long time, ultimately unable to bring his hand down.
He slowly lowered his arm, his expression turning ice-cold: “Chloe, we’re done here.
Oliver is a child of the Vances, and he has nothing to do with you anymore.”
“Don’t ever let me see you again.”
