The Day I Went Silent Chapter 22

“Mommy sees Meilani.”

Olivia softened her voice, pointing her phone’s camera at the little hat on the table. “Mommy is making a gift for Meilani.”

Meilani’s eyes sparkled, overwhelmed with joy: “Thank you, Mommy.

Mommy is the best.

Kisses, Mommy.”

“Okay, I’ll give you kisses when I get back.”

Olivia smiled, her gentle demeanor just like how she used to treat Oliver.

Oliver couldn’t hold it in anymore. He snatched Olivia’s phone and roared at the screen: “Why are you calling her that.

She is my mommy.

I am her only son.”

Meilani froze for a moment, wrinkling his nose in thought.

“Oh, so you’re Mommy’s disobedient ex-son who bullied her every day?”

“…I’m not an ex-son.

I have always been Mommy’s son.”

Oliver burst into angry tears, his eyes misting over. His tone was stubborn, like a wounded little beast.

Meilani wasn’t scared of him at all and giggled: “Mommy said she has nothing to do with you anymore.

I am her only son.”

How could this be.

How could Mommy be taken away.

The mist in Oliver’s eyes gathered thicker, and finally, biting his lip, he shed silent tears.

He had inherited Julian’s looks, exceptionally handsome even at such a young age.

The way he wept silently was incredibly pitiful.

In the past, Olivia would have definitely felt a pang of sympathy and pulled him into her arms to comfort him.

But now, acting as if she didn’t even see it, she simply took the phone back and softly comforted Meilani for a few moments.

After coaxing Meilani into happily hanging up the phone, she didn’t spare Oliver a single glance. She just said to Julian, “You saw that. That was my boyfriend’s child.”

Julian looked at her in disbelief: “To hide from me, you’d actually do something like this?”

“Become someone else’s stepmother?”

Meilani wasn’t actually Levi’s child.

After we got together, he explained it clearly to me.

Meilani was the result of an old fling of one of Levi’s good friends.

That friend used to be driven and ambitious as a student, but later fell into alcoholism and gambling. He treated the child poorly, often beating Meilani black and blue.

Levi witnessed this a few times, couldn’t stand it anymore, and took Meilani in to raise.

He even pulled some strings to finalize the adoption papers.

Meilani was very clingy with him and called him Daddy.

At first, Levi tried to correct it, but eventually, he just let it be.

Later, when Meilani started calling Olivia Mommy, he even seemed quite pleased about it.

But there was no need to explain any of this to Julian.

Olivia met Julian’s gaze calmly: “What’s wrong with being a stepmother?

Didn’t I act as a stepmother to Oliver, too?”

“I love him, and I’m willing to do anything.”

Julian’s expression grew even darker: “You love him?”

How could you love him?

Haven’t you loved me for ten years?

In just a few short months, how could you fall in love with someone else?

All these questions lodged in Julian’s throat, scrambling to get out, yet rendering him completely speechless.

“Ring, ring.”

This time, it was his phone ringing.

He casually pressed answer, and Chloe’s voice echoed in the room.

She sounded drunk: “Julian, I know I was wrong. Come pick me up, okay…

It’s so dark, I’m so scared…”

Julian snapped back to reality, hastily hung up the phone, and looked at Olivia.

“Olivia, let me explain. Chloe and I aren’t in touch anymore.”

“I don’t know why she called me…”

Olivia couldn’t be bothered to listen to his excuses, but she did think of a perfect way to get rid of him.

She smiled. “Julian, speaking of which, Chloe is the real culprit who drove us to where we are today.”

“She was the one who killed my baby…”

“Instead of apologizing to me, why don’t you make her pay the price?”

Chloe was the darling of Julian’s heart. Saying this would surely piss him off enough to leave, right?

Sure enough, Julian went silent. He lowered his head, his hand gripping his phone so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

Olivia was satisfied. “If you can’t do it, then please…”

“Alright, I promise you.”
