The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 20
Like me.
Like Lani and the others.
Unfortunately for her, while I had stepped into her territory, I was proving difficult to kill.
So the Mother of the Snake-vines had turned to grab easier prey instead.
Lani’s group was struggling more and more.
She screamed at me, “Meredith! We’re from the same family! You can’t just stand there and watch me die!”
I lowered my eyes and pretended not to hear.
Strictly speaking, in my previous three lives, the betrayals of Drake, Locke, and Kieran hadn’t really been Lani’s fault.
If they looked down on me, they would have found someone else even without her.
But I still couldn’t feel calm about her.
She was the one who had reaped the rewards of my suffering.
Why shouldn’t I hate her?
The fact that I wasn’t taking this chance to finish her off was already more than polite.
I was drained myself. There was no way I was risking my life to save the person who had once taken everything from me.
I couldn’t be that generous.
Lani must have seen it, too.
She shouted, “Meredith! If you refuse to save me, my recording stone has captured all of this! If you don’t save me, even if I die, I’ll send the recording back to the family first and let everyone see what their precious heir is really like!”
