The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 22
The ground suddenly began to shake again.
Even more violently than before.
Something in the distance was speeding this way, making an outrageous amount of noise.
Great sheets of yellow earth were thrown up, and dust rolled through the air so thickly that no one could see what was inside.
My heart dropped.
The next moment, something swept across the area like a hurricane.
The entire snake-vine forest was ripped up by the roots in the blink of an eye.
Snake-vine blood splattered everywhere, soaking Lani and the others from head to toe.
Then everyone saw the newcomer clearly.
White hair, violet eyes, a face so beautiful it was almost criminal.
But those eyes were flooded red with hunger.
I immediately shut my open eye and resumed playing dead.
Someone lifted me from the ground.
And then—
the little life force I had left was sucked away all at once.
Instinctively, I grabbed Paloma’s shoulder.
“Paloma, I… I just finished fighting. I’m nearly empty. You… slow down…”
“Meredith, I told you we shouldn’t have come in here. But you insisted!”
Furious, she bit into my neck.
Her teeth sank deep.
When she couldn’t get enough life force, she started drinking my blood.
The blood of our family naturally carried a dense life force.
She was really eating me.
I grabbed a fistful of her white hair.
“Paloma, wait…”
“Wait for what? I’m starving to death! Do you have any idea how long we’ve been apart?”
“How long?”
Time flowed differently in different regions of the Threshold.
A short while on my side could have been a very long time on hers.
Sure enough, she said in a low voice:
“Three days.”
