The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 23

The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 23

My eyes flew wide.

Three days.

She had been starving for three whole days.

I might really die here.

“Paloma, calm down first…”

“I can’t calm down!”

She pinned me to the ground and desperately drank my blood.

That sensation of nearing death surged over me again.

Clinging to my last scraps of consciousness, I asked her,

“Paloma, did you… did you eat your way here?”

“What else?”

“Then… did you run into any high-level magical beasts?”

“What counts as high-level?”

“…Really powerful ones.”

“Don’t remember.”

“Then what about the magical plants they were guarding? If you got any, give me a little. I can recover quickly.”

At last, she lifted her head.

“Magical plants?”

“Y-yes…”

My consciousness was almost gone. I could only force myself not to black out.

She licked the blood from the corner of her lips and thought hard.

A few seconds later, she opened her palm.

“You mean this?”

Out of nowhere, a lotus that was half-glowing, half-shadow appeared in her hand.

I stared at it and stopped breathing for a moment.

“That’s a light-shadow twin lotus… You ate the twin sea serpent guarding it, too?”

“What?”

“…Nothing.”

I drew a difficult breath.

“Quick. Give it to me.”

She casually stuffed the lotus into my mouth.

The moment it entered, it turned into a cool stream of liquid and slid down my throat.

It had absorbed thousands of years of moonlight and the Threshold’s energy. Its power was immense.

Almost instantly, the injuries in my body began to repair themselves.

My magic circuits were forcibly expanded by it as well.

But even so, they still couldn’t contain all of its life force.

The excess overflowed toward Paloma, but she refused it.

She would only consume life force that had passed through my conversion and truly belonged to me.

So she kept holding me, feeding greedily.

And all I could do was frantically convert the excess power of the twin lotus into my own life force.

“Slow down… I can’t keep up…”

Paloma gritted her teeth.

“Shut up.”

I immediately stopped talking.

She had already been hungry for three days.

The fact that she could still speak to me meant the last of her reason was stretched to its limit.

I didn’t dare provoke her further.
