The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 36
By the time a crowd of mages found us, I was hanging limp off Paloma, my mind long past the point of thought.
Paloma held me tightly, shielding me completely.
She glared down at the group beneath the tree, very displeased.
They had interrupted her meal.
But they were still mages.
And because she had been eating her fill these last few days, she had enough reason left to ask me:
“What do we do with them?”
I hooked my arms around her neck and kissed her hard.
She swallowed all my breathless sounds.
“Meredith, if you don’t answer me, I’m going to eat them all.”
“Do… whatever you want…”
How could I possibly care about that right now?
The aphrodisiac had burned away the last of my judgment.
Right now, all I wanted was Paloma.
Paloma licked away my tears, smiling with a kind of innocent cruelty.
“Good. Your words, not mine.”
I don’t know what happened after that.
The aphrodisiac lasted a full day and night.
By the time it finally wore off, I was so weak that I could barely stay draped over Paloma.
I slumped sideways and nearly fell from the tree.
Paloma caught me with one hand and hauled me back.
Then she lowered her head to feed from me again.
Weakly, I pushed at her shoulder.
“Paloma, I… I really can’t anymore.”
“I still have more aphrodisiac here. Should I feed you another bottle?”
“Are you trying to kill me?”
“What? You can drink recovery potions, but not this?”
“No!”
“Why not?”
I was practically about to cry.
“Just… not…”
“Tch.”
