The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 41

The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 41

The people of the Romano family never expected me to return so quickly.

The whole thing was laughable.

They clearly knew how strong my contract guardian was.

She could rampage across the Threshold and carry me out whole from under the siege of a crowd of mages.

And yet they still dared to pressure me.

People were always like this.

When they got used to someone always yielding, they started to believe that person would never strike back.

I said to Paloma, “Only kill the ones at the top. Don’t eat everyone. Otherwise there won’t be anyone left to run the family.”

Paloma rolled her eyes.

“What a pain.”

She complained, but she didn’t hesitate.

The family leader was the first she swallowed.

Then came the elders who rushed up to avenge him.

One after another, they all disappeared into her stomach.

She bared her teeth.

“They taste awful.”

I reached out and stroked her throat.

“When we’re done here, I’ll let you eat something nice.”

She slanted a look at me, and her hand immediately closed around the back of my neck.

“Meredith, I’m not your dog. Don’t soothe me like that.”

I smiled at her.

“So are you going to eat or not?”

Her gaze darkened.

“Meredith, if you dare not let me eat.”

Then she lowered her head, clearly intending to kiss me.

I hurriedly covered her mouth with my hand.

“I said after we’re done.”
