The Girl I Fed For Five Years Stole My Fiancé Chapter 06
Three Years Later
(Ronnie’s POV resumes)
Kane lies flat on the floor, staring up at the crystal chandelier I picked out myself. Tears slide down his face in silence.
“Ronnie…”
“I was wrong…”
“Please come home, baby…”
The only thing that answers him is the wind screaming outside the window.
(Three years later.)
I sit in first class on my flight home, flipping through the final report from my private investigator.
Clouds roll past the window—churning, restless. Just like the last three years of my life.
I’ve been hiding behind an overseas venture fund. Quietly teaming up with Griffin Corp’s biggest rivals. Building the short position piece by piece.
Nobody knows Kane Griffin better than I do. His arrogance. His blind spots in a boardroom.
I had people leak fake bullish reports on the dark web—luring him into piling leverage on heavy asset plays.
By the time he realized cash flow was choking, I’d already bought off three of his most trusted execs. They walked out on the same day. Took every major client with them.
Executives gone. Investors pulling out. Griffin Corp is a hollow shell now.
Word is, he’s spent months groveling to keep it alive. Every door slams in his face.
I close the report. I pick up my black coffee. Take a sip. Bitter runs down my throat and my mind snaps into perfect focus.
My first week back in the country, I’m invited to the International Finance Summit.
Outside the venue, the rain is coming down in sheets.
The car door opens. My bodyguard has a black umbrella up over me before I even step out.
I’m in a wine-red designer gown.
Camera flashes explode around me. Every reporter clawing for a shot of the mysterious new player crashing back onto the scene.
Through the gap under the umbrella, I see him.
Kane Griffin. Standing outside the security line in the pouring rain.
No invite. Just standing there like a beggar, trying to catch one of the big investors on their way in.
He looks wrecked. Not a trace left of the cocky bastard I used to know.
The crowd gasps. His head jerks up.
Our eyes lock.
And for one second, a spark actually flickers back into his dead eyes.
“Ronnie…”
He tears through the security line and lunges toward me.
My bodyguard reacts fast. One kick and Kane goes sprawling into a puddle.
But he doesn’t even seem to feel it. He crawls through the mud on his hands and knees. Straight up to my feet.
He tips his head back. Looks up at me with pure, groveling desperation.
“Ronnie, I was wrong… I know I was wrong!”
“I’ve been searching for you every single day for three years. I’m losing my mind. Please. Please forgive me…”
When I don’t answer, he yanks a folder out of his jacket.
“I’ll give you everything—this is the full stock transfer for Griffin Corp!”
“Just forgive me. Just come home. It’s all yours…”
I laugh out loud.
