The Heiress’s Revenge Chapter 07
“Lot 37. An emerald-cut sapphire pendant necklace, circa 1910s Tiffany craftsmanship. With certificate of authenticity. Opening bid, eight hundred thousand.”
I raised my paddle.
“One point five million.”
Greyson’s voice rang from the front. Clear. Casual. Carried through the silent room.
He didn’t even turn around.
The room erupted. Everyone knew what this necklace was. No one would bid against me.
Except Greyson. This was his warning. The most arrogant kind. To everyone. Including me. What he wanted, no one touched.
I dug my nails into my palm. Wentworth had money. But I didn’t control it yet. My father would never let me spend it on this.
The gavel fell. Spotlight swung to Greyson’s seat. Skylar leaned against him, eyes red-rimmed, whispering something.
I sat in the dim light. Watching that blue.
Remembered a page from my mother’s diary. Shaky, weak handwriting. “Thea’s been home a year. Still won’t call me Mom. If only I’d been more careful, watched over my baby. She wouldn’t have been switched…”
She died my second year back. I never got the chance to call her Mom.
Greyson knew exactly what this necklace meant to me.
The next lot was being wheeled out. I was already on my feet.
Greyson followed me out. “Thea.”
I didn’t turn.
“Cancel the wedding now. Your mother’s necklace can still be yours.” He spoke like it was a transaction. “I planned to give it to you anyway.”
I looked at him. “So you think I came here to bid because I was still waiting for you to give it to me?”
His brow tightened.
“You lost that right a long time ago.” My voice was quiet. “Under any name.”
