The Heiress’s Revenge Chapter 11
Every head followed my gaze.
Cole had been standing in the shadow beside the pillars the whole time. That loose, waiting posture he always had.
Now, hearing himself called, he looked like he’d just remembered he had a role. Hands came out of his pockets. Walked toward the main floor. No one stopped him. No one thought to stop a Wentworth Group driver.
“Mr. Rockwell.” He stopped in front of Greyson. Stood properly. “Cole. Miss’s driver.”
Hand reached inside his jacket. Pulled out a folded marriage certificate.
He opened it, held it to the light to confirm, then turned to Greyson. Voice dead serious. “Right. Forgot to mention. Starting today, I’m picking up a side gig. As her husband.”
Folded the certificate back into his pocket. Turned to me. Slight bow. “Boss. We good to go? Any later we’ll hit Millennium Park rush hour.”
I nodded.
Greyson’s face went from iron to bone-white.
“Thea. What the hell is this?” He reached for my wrist.
Cole shifted half a step sideways. Placed himself exactly between me and Greyson. Precision angle. Didn’t even let him brush my dress.
“Get out of the way. Who the hell asked you?” Greyson’s voice was ice.
But Cole sometimes had trouble understanding human speech. I didn’t move. He didn’t move.
“Him?” Dax finally surfaced from shock. Short, sharp laugh. “Thea. Even if you want to piss Greyson off, you don’t need a driver for this act. What are the rest of us—dead?”
Jasper’s face looked no better than Greyson’s. Kieran stood farther back, staring at the marriage certificate in Cole’s hand. Stunned.
“Enough!”
