The Heiress’s Revenge Chapter 12
Beside the main seat, my father finally exploded. He hurled his whiskey glass to the floor. The whole room flinched.
“Thea. This farce stops now. I did not approve this marriage.” He shot Cole a vicious glare. Pinned me with it. “A Wentworth daughter marrying this—this waste of space?”
Marrying some useless driver. To protect my inheritance rights. He’d figured it out.
He went straight for the throat. “A driver? You know anything about him? His background?”
“No.” I tilted my head at Cole. “Why don’t you fill everyone in?”
He looked down at me. The amusement in his eyes deepened. Something dark beneath it.
“Miss, I’ve got four figures in savings. Credit score probably lower than your heel. One beat-up Ford pickup about to die—your employee benefit, actually. Hometown’s in Kentucky. Dad’s hobby is lottery tickets. Mom’s hobby is yelling at Dad about lottery tickets. Two younger brothers in community college.”
“Enough to support me?”
“Peanut butter sandwiches every meal. All you can eat.”
I laughed. Looked at my father. “See? He’s honest.”
My father’s face had gone from red to purple.
“Thea. You think this threatens me? Fine. You want to marry a driver? I’ll make it happen. Let me tell you something—Wentworth won’t pay a cent of dowry. Your shares, your assets—all revoked. From this day forward, you have no connection to the Wentworth family.”
He meant every word for the guests to hear.
Of course. What I was about to say was for the same purpose.
“Dad. That’s not fair. You forced me to marry. I’m just obeying. Isn’t that what you wanted?” I pulled out my phone. Hit play.
His voice boomed through the hall. “Three days… The old man flies back from Palm Beach in three days. Before then, you need to be married.”
One sentence was enough.
