The Underboss Voted No So I Chose A New Life Chapter 11

“I’m not going back.”

“We can postpone the registration and the family dinner for a few more days.”

“That’s not the issue.”

“Then what do you want me to do?”

His voice was low, still holding that same controlled tone he always used.

“The people who voted—I’ll have them apologize to you, one by one. From now on, you’ll come on every inner-circle trip. As for Chloe, I’ll have the adviser assign someone else to her protection.”

“What if I hadn’t left?”

He froze.

“What?”

“If I were still in the apartment in New York, waiting for you, would you think you’d done anything wrong?”

Hadrian didn’t have an answer.

Cameron came out of the station and handed me the recorder from the interview.

“Mireille, the extra recording’s done. Are you heading back to the bureau tonight?”

“Yes.”

Hadrian glanced at the ID badge on his chest.

“So you’re Cameron?”

“I am.”

“Thanks for looking after her these past few days. I’ll take it from here.”

Cameron didn’t argue. He only looked at me.

“Do you need me to?”

“No.”

The moment I said it, Hadrian’s expression changed completely.
