The Unsent Appeal Chapter 07
“She’s just a regular employee.”
The polite smile vanished from the executive’s face.
“Mrs. Sinclair, this is a Fortune 500 company.”
“We don’t have ‘regular employees’ here.”
“When Chloe first joined us, her résumé wasn’t particularly impressive.”
“But she never turned down a last-minute business trip, a late-night meeting, or a difficult project.”
“The company is more than willing to give people like that greater responsibility.”
“Deputy Managing Director is only the beginning for her.”
The whole family stared at him.
Tyler spoke first. “She’s really that capable?”
Allison’s expression was the stiffest of all.
She was used to being the one everyone praised.
The first time she heard someone praising my abilities right in front of her, the flicker of guilt she’d felt the night before vanished instantly.
“You were too easy on her last night,” she muttered.
“You should have kicked her out a long time ago.”
Both of my parents glared at her.
This was the first time they had ever felt proud of one of my accomplishments.
In their memories, I was plain, quiet, and average in school, with no special talents.
Allison’s grades were also poor, but she was pretty and outgoing.
My parents signed her up for dance, voice, and drama classes.
She never stuck with any of them, but she always drew compliments at parties.
My parents loved hearing those compliments, so they kept pouring resources into her, while I could never bring them that kind of glory.
Now, while savoring this long-overdue pride, they also began to reflect on everything they had overlooked.
After leaving the company, Tyler immediately told Kieran about my promotion.
I had once turned down my manager’s first recommendation for the role because I didn’t want to leave my family or Kieran.
When Kieran heard the news, he made Tyler confirm it several times.
“Chloe? She’s the Deputy Managing Director of the Dublin branch?”
He was shocked, but also thrilled.
