The Unsent Appeal Chapter 09

The Unsent Appeal Chapter 09

He had no choice but to contact Tyler again.

When Tyler told him I had already landed in Dublin, his phone slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor.

By the time everyone back home started panicking and drowning in regret, my flight had already touched down at Dublin Airport.

The head of the branch came to meet me in person.

After reviewing my project history, he handed me the most important account on their books.

“Chloe, knock this out of the park,” he said.

“With you taking this over, I’ll be able to return to the Boston headquarters on schedule.”

If I succeeded with this project, I would become the next head of the branch.

Before officially starting work, I went to a salon and had my blonde hair dyed back to its natural dark brown.

I was born with dark hair.

But Allison had honey-blonde curls, the kind people always compared to a Disney princess.

My face and my dark, straight hair were plain, and standing next to her, I was rarely noticed.

To get people to look at me, I dyed my hair a similar shade of blonde.

The moment my dark roots showed, I would touch them up immediately.

I wanted people to believe that color was natural.

The first time I showed up in front of Kieran with blonde curls, he’d sprayed water from his mouth.

“Chloe, do you really think dyeing your hair blonde will turn you into a princess?”

He stared at me for a few seconds.

“Your skin has yellow undertones, and your complexion isn’t great.”

“This color just makes all of that stand out more.”

I didn’t believe him. I stared into the mirror for a long time, thinking maybe my hair just wasn’t long enough, or full enough.

Now I understood.

I had imitated Allison out of insecurity and forgotten what I actually looked like.

I never should have lost myself over someone else’s opinion.
