Their Favoritism Resulted In A Cruel Outcome Chapter 11
Connor stared at those words for a long time.
In the end, he didn’t change the dress.
He smoothed the skirt back into place and put the unfinished photo album into my hands.
“I’m going out for a while.”
“Willa, wait for me to come back.”
The lead investigator looked away.
The dead don’t wait for anyone.
Connor, however, seemed not to understand that.
He looked back every few steps until the coffin was out of his sight.
At the State Law Enforcement Division, my father and brothers were questioned separately. Blair was brought in last, crying the entire way.
The moment she saw the state attorney general in charge of the case, she said, “I was forced into this.”
“I didn’t forge any order.”
“It was Willa refusing to give back the engagement that left me no other choice.”
The attorney general set the evidence bag containing the fake detention order in front of her.
“A dead woman forced you to imitate the governor’s signature?”
“She forced you to steal Connor Winthrop’s security credentials?”
“And the cash from James—did she tell the butler to intercept that, too?”
The moment Blair saw the photo of the document, she jerked her hand back.
The attorney general turned to Connor in the next interrogation room.
“You tell me.”
Connor looked straight at the camera.
“The idea to forge the emergency order was mine.”
That night, after Blair slit her wrist, everyone had panicked.
She said that unless she saw with her own eyes that I had lost not only my engagement but also the Worthington family’s protection, she would never believe she truly belonged there.
