They Voted Me Out Of The Wedding So I Canceled It Chapter 06
Not long after the moving truck pulled away from the curb, my lawyer called.
“Just confirming—you’ve left the marital residence?”
I looked at the lights of our neighborhood shrinking in the rearview mirror.
“Yes. I’m not going back.”
When I got to the new apartment, I didn’t unpack. Following my lawyer’s instructions, I sent the separation agreement and financial disclosure notice to Evan’s attorney, then called the bank to freeze our joint accounts.
Once the delivery confirmations came through, I sent Evan one last text.
“For all further matters, please contact my attorney.”
Then I blocked his number.
The next morning, Evan was having breakfast with his family in the hotel restaurant in Savannah.
Ava glanced at my empty seat and curled her lip.
“She’s not even coming to the wedding now? She just wants me to feel guilty.”
Rachel stirred her coffee. “She’ll be back after it’s over. She’s spent ten years taking care of this family. She’s not going to just walk away.”
Evan believed it, too.
His phone kept buzzing. He opened the *Wedding Transition Checklist* first. Seeing the densely packed list of logins and notes, he gave a small, dismissive smile.
“See? She still made sure everything was handled.”
It wasn’t until he saw the separation agreement and my attorney’s information that his stride toward the ballroom faltered.
One of the groomsmen clapped him on the shoulder. “Everything okay?”
“Claire’s just throwing a fit.”
He typed back to my number: “Got it. We’ll talk when I’m back.”
A red exclamation point immediately appeared next to the message: *Not Delivered*.
He frowned, but he didn’t go back to the hotel to look for me, and he didn’t call my lawyer.
He was still convinced I was just trying to force his hand.
So he silenced his phone and went back to laughing with his groomsmen.
