They Voted Me Out Of The Wedding So I Canceled It Chapter 07
The night after the wedding, Evan picked out what he thought was the perfect family portrait.
In it, he and Rachel stood on either side of Ava, the three of them smiling as if they had never been apart.
He sent it to me, waiting for the jealous, angry text that was sure to follow. But the message never went through. He tried calling and got a disconnected tone.
Rachel shrugged. “Don’t rush to fix it. She just wants you to chase her.”
Evan put his phone away. “Fine. She can cool off for a few more days.”
At that moment, I was in my new Atlanta apartment, assembling a bookshelf and turning the second bedroom into a home office.
That afternoon, I had walked Cameron, the investor, through my revised business plan.
When he finished the last page, he looked up. “So what changed? How did you suddenly find the time to move on this?”
I closed my laptop.
“I just quit a long-term, unpaid position.”
That evening, I turned on my new phone. A few friends had forwarded screenshots of messages from Evan, asking if they knew where I was.
I didn’t respond to any of them.
The night before he was due back in Decatur, Evan tried to remotely turn on the air-conditioning at our house. The smart home app flashed a notification: *Access Denied*.
The smile on his face finally froze. He immediately logged into the HOA owner’s portal.
There on the screen was an approved request titled *Personal Property Removal*, submitted by Claire Morgan.
He called property management, his voice tight.
The manager checked the record. “Yes, Mr. Hale. The moving company authorized by Ms. Morgan came yesterday. Everything on the personal property inventory she submitted has been removed from the residence.”
