They Voted Me Out Of The Wedding So I Canceled It Chapter 08
Evan canceled his flight, grabbed his car keys, and stormed out of the hotel.
Rachel ran after him into the parking lot. “Isn’t this exactly what she wants? For you to go running home so she can win?”
“She moved out!” he yelled.
It was the first time he had ever shouted at her. He got in his car and drove through the night, all the way from Savannah to Decatur.
Claire had no family in Atlanta. For eight years, she had treated that house as her home. He had never imagined she could just build another one for herself.
Just before dawn, he burst through the front door and stopped dead.
In the kitchen, her beloved Italian espresso machine and the entire set of cookware were gone. The living room walls were covered in pale rectangles where her art had once hung. The two bookshelves in the study stood empty, every one of her professional books gone. In the dining room, the antique table that had belonged to her grandmother was gone, too.
The house looked as if half of it had been surgically removed, leaving only his things behind.
Evan sat in the hollowed-out living room until it was dark.
On the side table was a letter from my lawyer, formally notifying him of the next steps in dividing our assets.
He took out his phone and called my old number again.
The phone rang once before the call was rejected.
His fingers shook as he dialed again.
The second time, he got the recorded message: *The number you have dialed is no longer in service.*
