They Voted Me Out Of The Wedding So I Canceled It Chapter 09
Three days later, Evan waited outside my former company until he finally caught my old boss on his way out.
“I’m her husband. I need her new address, or at least a way to contact her.”
My old boss stopped and looked at him, his expression cool.
“That’s confidential employee information. We can’t disclose that.”
“We’re not divorced yet!”
“When she resigned, her marital status was listed as married,” he confirmed. Then he paused. “But her emergency contact wasn’t you. It was her lawyer.”
Evan’s face went slack.
“And one more thing,” my boss added. “Years ago, she was already consulting with our legal department about starting her own business. Before she left, she asked me to tell you something if you came looking for her. She said to tell you she isn’t waiting for you to fix this. She’s executing Plan B.”
Evan just stood there, motionless.
For the first time, he understood that the vote hadn’t made me leave.
It had just made me press *start*.
At that very moment, in a café in Atlanta, I was reviewing my business plan with Cameron.
I turned to the last page and signed my name on the irrevocable trust documents my lawyer had prepared.
Cameron glanced at them. “Once this is set up, it’s hard to undo.”
I capped my pen.
“I don’t plan on it.”
That night, an unfamiliar number called.
When I answered, Evan’s voice came through, hoarse and strained.
“I hired a private investigator. He found the address for your new company registration.”
After a beat of silence, he asked, “You’re in Atlanta?”
