Three Days Until Goodbye Chapter 05

I completely ignored him. Instead, I grabbed a handful of tissues off his desk to dab at the blistering red burns on my leg.

Pissed off that I wasn’t answering, Alexander grabbed my arm.

“Is this how you treat the guy paying for your entire lifestyle? I support you financially, which means you do exactly what I tell you.”

He was strong, and between the shock and my fresh burns, I couldn’t fight back.

I stumbled over my own feet as he physically dragged me out of the office.

He didn’t stop until we hit the stairs, where he just let go of me.

Caught off balance, my momentum threw me backward, and I went tumbling down the steps.

A sharp, sickening pain shot through my ankle, which was already starting to swell.

Alexander stared down at me from the landing.

“This is what happens when you defy me, Madyson.”

He turned on his heel and walked away, not even bothering to look back.

Too weak to stand, I stayed on the floor, burning with humiliation as the onlookers stopped to stare.

A while later, the receptionist finally wheeled over a chair.

“Ms. Dawes?” she murmured softly. “Ms. Homer was pretty upset earlier, so Mr. Broughton took her out of the city to relax. Here, let’s get you up.”

She helped me into the wheelchair.

Right then, my phone alarm went off—my reminder that it was time to head to the airport for my international flight.

I swiped to silence it and saw a new text from Alexander.

“I’ve spoiled you too much over the years, which is exactly why you act like this.

“I’ve blocked your number. I’ll unblock it once you realize you were wrong.”

It didn’t matter. There wasn’t going to be a next time anyway.

I popped out my SIM card and swapped in a new one.

Then, I wheeled myself outside, caught a ride to the airport, and boarded my flight out of the country.
