Too Late He Wanted Me Back Chapter 08
As dawn broke and Seraphina left in the military vehicle, Jaylen was busy in the kitchen.
“Teresa, are you sure Sera likes scrambled eggs?” Jaylen muttered as he cracked eggs into the pan. “This seems too simple. It’s almost too plain for someone recovering. Does she have any other favorite dishes? I want to make something special to show her how much I care.”
“Mrs. Canyer prefers light flavors and rarely eats meat. She usually sticks to vegetables,” the household staff, Teresa Kirkeman, replied with a gentle smile. “She does enjoy white fish and fresh prawns. You could make creamy butter shrimp and a pot of mild white fish chowder. Since her leg is injured, the nutrients in seafood and chowder are perfect for helping her bones heal.”
Jaylen thought the suggestion was excellent and immediately sent the household staff to get the ingredients.
He spent two full hours working in the kitchen before he finally finished preparing the entire meal.
Jaylen carefully packed the meal into thermos containers and carried it to the hospital.
Thinking back, this was the first time he had ever personally cooked for Seraphina while she was sick.
He was sure that Seraphina would be deeply moved when she saw this. At the thought, a faint smile played on his lips. He even imagined her blushing and giving him a soft smile when he presented the food.
But the moment Jaylen pushed open the door to her hospital room, he froze.
The room was empty. Seraphina was nowhere to be seen.
The calm Jaylen had fought so hard for shattered instantly.
He thought, “Where could Sera have gone? Her left leg was still in a cast. How could a ‘disabled’ person on crutches, who could barely move, have gone anywhere? Maybe she was just in the bathroom. Or maybe she was feeling down and had asked a nurse to wheel her downstairs for some air.”
With those thoughts racing, Jaylen pressed the call button to ask the nurse where Seraphina was.
A nurse arrived a moment later. “Mr. Canyer, is there anything I can do for you?”
Jaylen frowned, his expression hardening with displeasure. “Where is my wife? Why would you take her out this early?”
“We didn’t take Mrs. Canyer anywhere,” the nurse replied, looking completely confused. “Isn’t she in her room?”
Jaylen’s temper flared instantly. He grabbed a glass from the side table and hurled it at her. “Are you blind? Does that bed look like there is anyone in it?”
The young nurse flinched in fear and stammered, “Please calm down, Mr. Canyer. Maybe another nurse wheeled her out for some air. I’ll go check right now!”
She clutched her medical charts and hurried out of the room in a panic.
A terrible sense of dread washed over Jaylen, followed by an overwhelming wave of anxiety. He needed to find Seraphina immediately.
Since every hospital room was equipped with surveillance cameras, he barked an urgent order. “Someone get in here! Pull up the footage for this room and check it frame by frame. I want to know exactly where Seraphina went within the last hour!”
