Too Late He Wanted Me Back Chapter 09
At a single command, Jaylen’s men sprang into action at once.
As quickly as possible, they pulled all the surveillance footage from the hospital and began piecing together Seraphina’s movements from the previous night.
It did not take long for them to find the answer.
“Mr. Canyer, according to the surveillance footage, at around 11:30 last night, Mrs. Canyer went to the room next door with a cane to see Ms. Demaillet,” a subordinate reported respectfully. “After meeting Ms. Demaillet, Mrs. Canyer seemed to suffer a great blow. Without anyone’s help, she limped out of the hospital with her cane.”
After hearing the report, Jaylen’s expression instantly turned terrifying.
Cyenne! It was Cyenne again!
How much more trouble was this walking disaster going to cause him?
Originally, Cyenne’s accidental role in the death of Jaylen’s only son had already touched his most forbidden nerve. Though Jaylen never said it aloud, deep down he did blame Cyenne, because if she had not insisted on dragging Santino to the beach to surf, Santino would not have met with that accident…
During this period, if Cyenne had behaved herself and stopped stirring up trouble, then for the sake of their past bond, Jaylen might have continued to indulge her. But not only had she shown no restraint at all, she had become even worse and driven Seraphina away.
Jaylen could endure it no longer. Furious, he gave the order: “Drag Cyenne here!”
He had even said “drag her here” instead of “bring her here.” His subordinate accepted the order and immediately rushed to the room next door, dragging Cyenne over.
Cyenne recognized Jaylen’s men, so she did not struggle. She let them roughly drag her off the bed, looking completely at their mercy. But the moment she saw Jaylen, she immediately collapsed delicately onto the floor, and with tear-filled eyes, said, “Jay, what happened? Why are you looking at me so fiercely? Did I do something wrong again and make you angry?”
In the past, whenever Cyenne showed that aggrieved yet forbearing expression, all of Jaylen’s blazing anger would instantly turn into endless heartache. He pitied her for living under someone else’s roof, for having to tread carefully in everything. He pitied her for having no one to rely on, for not even daring to speak plainly when she was wronged… That pity had blinded Jaylen and made him begin to tolerate Cyenne without limit.
But now, he could no longer keep covering for Cyenne.
Because Cyenne had revealed too many flaws, he could no longer pretend not to see them.
“Cyenne, did you see Seraphina last night?” Jaylen demanded coldly. “Tell me honestly, after you saw Seraphina last night, what exactly did you say to her?”
At that, Cyenne froze for a moment, then immediately covered her face and began to cry again.
“Jay, it’s all my fault.” Biting her lip, Cyenne said through tears, “I got Tino killed, and Seraphina hates me for it, so she suddenly came to me yesterday and demanded that I pay for Tino’s life…”
“I am willing to pay with my life, but I don’t want to die all alone in a hospital room, so I begged Seraphina to give me one more day, so I could see my parents, see Franny, and see you one last time.”
When she said that last sentence, Cyenne lifted her eyes and looked at Jaylen with deep affection filling them.
She had thought that look of tender devotion would surely move Jaylen.
But Jaylen instead grabbed the ashtray from the table and hurled it at her. “Cyenne, you’re still putting on an act for me? Do you really think I don’t know what you said to Sera last night?”
