Too Late He Wanted Me Back Chapter 15

Originally, Seraphina did not want to make her divorce from Jaylen public. After all, it was a private matter, and she did not want everyone to know about it. But when she heard the chief director warmly inviting Jaylen to stay at the base for a few more days, she could not hold it in any longer.

“Chief Commander, there’s no need to go to so much trouble.” Seraphina tried hard to suppress the surging emotions inside her. Forcing herself to calm down, she said in a flat, emotionless voice, “Mr. Canyer and I are divorced. The two of us have nothing to do with each other anymore.”

That single sentence instantly dropped the atmosphere at the scene to freezing point.

Jaylen’s expression darkened at once as well. Suppressing his anger, he said, “Sera, don’t throw a little tantrum in front of so many people. We’ve been married for more than five years. With feelings this deep, how can you just say divorce and mean it?”

Hearing that, the chief director beside them also hurried to smooth things over. “Mr. Canyer is right. It wasn’t easy for two people to end up together. Young people these days just don’t know how to cherish what they have. Over the tiniest thing, they’re arguing and making a fuss about divorce. What kind of behavior is that? Seraphina, you can’t be so immature. Look at Mr. Canyer—he came all the way to our aviation base just to coax you. How touching is that sincerity?”

Once the chief director spoke up, the others quickly chimed in as well. “Exactly, exactly. Whatever conflict a young couple has, they can just talk it out. There’s really no need to make such a fuss over divorce.”

“Mr. Canyer is such a good man. Professor Astriage, if you don’t want him, there are plenty of people outside who do.”

“Husbands and wives quarrel at the head of the bed and make up at the foot of it. Let Mr. Canyer stay a few more days. Maybe then Professor Astriage will forgive him.”

Everyone spoke at once, trying to persuade them to reconcile, and no one noticed that Seraphina’s expression was growing uglier and uglier.

She truly could not stand this feeling of being forcibly tied to Jaylen anymore. So lowering her eyes, she coldly dropped a bombshell: “A small conflict? Then let me ask you this—when my son and the mistress fell into the water at the same time, Jaylen rushed to save the mistress and caused my son to drown alive. Is that the kind of small conflict that can be fixed with a little communication, or the kind of irreconcilable conflict that makes divorce absolutely necessary?”

In an instant, the entire office fell deathly silent. Everyone’s eyes widened as they looked at Jaylen in utter disbelief.

“Sera, you’ve misunderstood me.” Jaylen quickly explained, “What Cyenne told you wasn’t true. She was lying! She deliberately made up those lies just to drive a wedge into our marriage.”

“On the day Tino had the accident, I wasn’t there at all. If I had been there, I would have done everything I could to save Tino.”

“Tino was my own flesh and blood. I loved him and felt for him just as much as you did. How could I possibly watch him get swept away by the waves and do nothing?”

Jaylen spoke with deep sincerity, and the pain in his eyes showed that, at this moment, he was not lying.

But Seraphina’s gaze remained icy as she looked at him. “Jaylen, stop pretending. If you really loved Tino and felt for him the way I did, then the moment you learned that Cyenne had killed Tino, you would have wanted, just like I did, to rush over and strangle her to death—instead of blindly taking her side.”

“You would never do everything in your power to protect me, and you would never do everything in your power to protect Tino. The only person you have ever protected with all your strength is Cyenne.”
