We Saved Two Werewolves And Now Our Possessive Mates Won’t Let Us Go Chapter 06

The first few days in Lark Bay were quiet.

If Jacob’s unanswered messages hadn’t still been sitting on my phone, I might actually have believed I’d started over.

Unfortunately, Hailey didn’t see it that way.

I was coming back from the main street with groceries like usual. I had just reached the door when I saw our gate standing wide open and two unfamiliar werewolf enforcers in the yard. They wore matching dark gray jackets with the Lark Bay Community Safety Board badge stitched over the chest.

Fiona stood on the porch, looking anything but welcoming.

One of the enforcers held a document in his hand.

“We received a report that you’re illegally disturbing the local werewolf community. Under the Lark Bay Community Safety Ordinance, we need to inspect the premises.”

My steps faltered. My stomach sank.

“What do you mean by disturbing the local werewolf community?”

I hurried over and stood beside Fiona.

The wolf looked at me and let his gaze linger for two full seconds, in a way that felt more like assessment than courtesy.

“There have been reports that two Gammas from the Blackmoon Pack have been seen near your home repeatedly. Since you’re both unaffiliated human residents, that presents a potential safety risk.”

Unaffiliated human residents. That was exactly the point.

Fiona said coldly, “Do you have a warrant?”

The other wolf pulled out a paper and waved it.

“This is a community notice authorizing a temporary inspection.”

Fiona folded her arms.

“A temporary notice is not a warrant.”

“And you claim Blackmoon wolves have been here repeatedly. Where’s your evidence?”

Impatience flashed across the enforcer’s face.

“Miss, don’t make this difficult. You don’t belong to any pack. If this gets escalated, even your temporary residency permit for this house could come under review.”

The threat was completely undisguised.

Then came the click of high heels outside.

I turned and saw Hailey standing at the gate, a faint smile on her lips.

“You should understand, I’m not here to make things difficult for you. Quite the opposite. I’m giving you an opportunity.”

She paused, then continued.

“If you’re willing to sign a statement voluntarily cutting off private contact with the core members of the Blackmoon Pack, I can guarantee no one in Lark Bay will bother you again.”

My face went cold.

“What makes you think you have the right to negotiate with us?”

Hailey looked at me with open contempt.

“The Blackmoon council of elders has already expressed its dissatisfaction with Hadrian and Jacob. If they insist on damaging relations between Foxmoon and Blackmoon for the sake of two humans, they won’t keep their positions for long.”

Fiona’s expression didn’t change.

“That’s their choice. You don’t get to decide who their mates are.”

At that, Hailey’s face finally darkened.

After a long moment, she said slowly, “You’ll regret this.”

I smiled at her.

“That’s our business. Next time, bring a real warrant. Otherwise, don’t come here again.”

Hailey spun on her heel and stormed off. The two enforcers awkwardly folded up their document and hurried after her.
