We Were Once Called Losers Chapter 10

One year later.

The elite class, Rothschild Group headquarters.

I sat on my second brother’s sofa, scrolling through my phone.

“Seriously, Chloe, can you show a little ambition?”

My second brother, Nathaniel, finished the documents on hand and walked over to me with a cup of coffee.

“Julian has been interning at the company for half a year, and you’re still here freeloading off me.”

I rolled my eyes with perfect justification.

“My husband is making money to support the family, and I’m in charge of looking pretty. Is there a problem with that?”

My second brother laughed out of sheer exasperation.

“Fine, you win.”

Over the past year, Julian’s transformation had been stunning.

He graduated first in his class from that fully enclosed business management boot camp.

Although he still didn’t talk much and disliked socializing, his sensitivity to data and business acumen were outstanding.

The two older sisters of The Vance Family directly handed over the venture capital firm under the Vance Group for him to manage.

In just half a year, several projects he invested in all made huge profits.

Those in the elite class who used to mock him as a fool now had to respectfully call him Julian when they saw him.

My phone rang.

It was a WhatsApp message from Julian.

“Off work. Coming to pick you up.”

I immediately bounced off the sofa, grabbed my bag, and headed out.

“Second brother, my husband is here to pick me up. Bye!”

My second brother shook his head helplessly behind me.

“A grown daughter never stays.”

I took the CEO’s exclusive elevator down to the underground parking garage.

At a glance, I spotted that familiar Maybach.

Julian, dressed in a suit, was leaning against the car door waiting for me.

His aura had become much more composed. Though he still carried a hint of aloofness, it was no longer that isolating coldness that kept people a thousand miles away.

Seeing me, a smile touched the depths of his eyes.

“Chloe.”

He walked over, naturally took the bag from my hand, and opened the car door for me.

“Are you tired today?”

I got into the passenger seat, looking at him with a beaming smile.

“Not tired at all. Second brother’s sofa is very soft.”

Julian got into the car and leaned over to buckle my seatbelt.

He was so close that I could smell the faint woody cologne on him.

“What do you want to eat tonight?” he asked.

“Hmm… I want to eat oldest brother’s Honey Glazed Baby Back Ribs.”

“Okay, let’s go back to oldest brother’s house.”

The car drove smoothly out of the garage, merging into the traffic of the elite class.

I watched the retreating streetscapes outside the window, my thoughts drifting back to Seattle.

That banquet completely changed us.

Arleth went completely insane in the psychiatric hospital. My oldest brother had people give her electroshock therapy every day.

It wouldn’t stop until she realized her mistakes.

She became a lunatic who could only say, “I was wrong, you are not a mistress.”

Justin was sentenced to fifteen years. Because he offended the wrong people inside, he was living a life worse than death.

And Julian and I remained the most envied couple in the elite class.

Except now, I was the only good-for-nothing left.

“What are you thinking about?”

Julian’s voice interrupted my thoughts.

He stopped the car at the red light and turned to look at me.

“Nothing.”

I grasped his hand resting on the steering wheel.

“Just thinking that since my husband is so powerful now, does that mean I can walk around the elite class like I own the place?”

Julian squeezed my hand back, intertwining our fingers.

“You can.”

He looked into my eyes, his tone serious.

“Anywhere you want to go, you can.

“I will protect you.”

“Alright, it’s a promise.”
