We Were Once Called Losers Chapter 01

We Were Once Called Losers Chapter 01

There were two famous losers in the elite class.

One was me, Chloe Rothschild, the little princess of the elite class who only knew how to eat, drink, and play.

The other was my childhood friend, Julian Vance, the wealthy young master who suffered from autism and congenital heart failure.

But my eldest brother was a terrifying underworld prince, and my second brother was the wealthiest man whose fortune rivaled a nation’s.

His eldest sister was an invincible queen of the legal world, and his second sister was a medical prodigy who could bring people back from death’s door.

While playing Poker, the four Grim Reapers casually chatted: “Raising one loser is the same as raising two. We might as well pair them up, it’ll be easier.”

So, Julian and I went straight to get our marriage certificate.

Our daily married life consisted of swiping my second brother’s card, mooching meals off my eldest brother, and waiting to be fed by his sisters.

That was until my eldest brother asked us to attend Seattle’s richest man’s banquet in his place.

At the banquet, the richest man’s daughter, Arleth Sterling, insisted I was the mistress who ruined her relationship, all based on a photo of a similar-looking back.

I explained good-naturedly, “You’ve got the wrong person. I’m married, and this is my husband.”

Arleth instantly exploded and raised her hand to slap me.

“How dare you chase other men while you have a husband?”

Julian instinctively blocked me, taking the slap for me as a trace of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.

She sneered, “Oh, he’s a retard too?

Can’t even tell his wife is cheating, and he’s still protecting her?

A shameless slut and a retard, what a perfect match.”

She waved her hand, and several bodyguards lunged at us.

“Beat them both!”

I looked at Julian with an aching heart and dialed my eldest brother’s number behind my back.

“Brother, someone is bullying me.”

After all, they didn’t know that offending the four Grim Reapers of the elite class might leave you alive, but offending us two losers would cost you everything.

……

“Oh my, calling for backup because you can’t win?

Brother?

More like a secret lover, I bet.”

Arleth snatched my phone and smashed it fiercely onto the ground.

“What, one retarded husband isn’t enough to satisfy you? How many wild men have you secretly taken as your ‘brothers’?”

I stared at the phone on the ground and took a deep breath.

“Miss Sterling, I will say this one last time.

You have the wrong person.

Take your people and get lost right now, and I can pretend none of this ever happened.”

Arleth burst into loud laughter.

She turned to look at the guests who were watching the drama unfold.

“Did you all hear that?

A cheap mistress is actually telling me to get lost?”

A roar of laughter erupted from the crowd.

“Miss, mistresses these days are incredibly arrogant.”

“Exactly, even bringing a retarded husband along as a cover. What an eye-opener.”

Arleth took a step closer in her six-inch heels.

She raised her hand, her manicured nails almost poking the tip of my nose.

“In Seattle, I am the law.

Beat her!”

The bodyguards clenched their fists and lunged at me.

I instinctively closed my eyes.

But the anticipated pain never came.

Julian shielded me desperately in his arms.

“Don’t… hit Chloe.”

He spoke very slowly, his articulation slightly slurred.

With severe autism, he didn’t understand what was happening.

But he only knew that he couldn’t let me get hurt, holding me tightly.

The bodyguards’ fists rained down relentlessly on his back.

Every muffled thud smashed heavily against my heart.

“Julian!”

I struggled desperately to break free from his embrace.

Let me go!

You have a bad heart, you can’t take these hits!”

Julian stubbornly shook his head.

His face was deathly pale, but the hands holding mine didn’t loosen in the slightest.

“Chloe… it doesn’t hurt.

I won’t let Chloe hurt. I’ll protect you.”

He forced a smile to comfort me.

He is such a fool!

He was trembling from the pain himself, yet he still cared if I was hurting!

“Stop!

Stop it right now!”

He had a heart condition; he couldn’t withstand such a vicious beating at all.

My eyes red, I whipped my head around and glared at Arleth.

“Stop, if you keep hitting him, he’ll die.”

The surrounding servants began to whisper among themselves.

“That dress looks authentic, and this girl doesn’t carry herself like a high-class escort.”

“Shh, do you have a death wish?

Miss is in a fit of rage right now. Who dares to cross her?”

The Sterling family’s butler wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and whispered a reminder.

“Miss, that gentleman’s complexion doesn’t look right. It seems he has a heart condition.

If someone actually dies…”

Arleth backhanded the butler across the face.

“Shut up!

He’s just a fool, why act so delicate?”

She pointed at Julian, her eyes full of contempt.

“Never mind one life, even if he had ten more, I could afford to pay for them!

“Drag this adulterous pair to the main hall!

I want everyone in Seattle to see what happens when you try to steal Arleth’s man!”

The bodyguards roughly dragged me and Julian toward the main hall.

Julian held onto my hand in a death grip, his fingers freezing cold.

His chest heaved violently, and a fine layer of cold sweat seeped from his forehead.

I struggled desperately, my high heels scraping harshly against the floor.

“Don’t touch him!

He has a heart condition!

You’re going to kill him!”

Arleth walked ahead, not even bothering to look back.

“Then let him die.”
