West Coast East Heart Chapter 10

West Coast East Heart Chapter 10

Wasn’t she supposed to revolve around him?

Going back to California, joining that startup company—was it really that important?

More important than him?

He couldn’t understand.

I strode toward the exit.

At the door, the Nexagen chauffeur held up a sign with my name on it.

“Dr. Reed, welcome back.”

I shook his hand.

That hand was warm and steady.

“I’m back.”

I smiled.

After ten years of drifting, I was finally home.

The company set me up with my own independent lab and put together a top-tier team.

I stood at the entrance of the lab, looking at the nameplate on the door that read: “Reed Laboratory · Project Phoenix.”

My eyes grew wet.

This would be where my dream took flight.

A place I was willing to give my all to.

The next day, I brought my team in and threw myself completely into R&D.

Everyone was brimming with energy. Their eyes sparkled.

“We’re going to build the industry’s most advanced hypersonic unmanned system!”

A month later, our prototype was already taking shape.

One day, the front desk forwarded a visitor registration.

Adrian had come.

He stood in the lobby, holding a bouquet of roses, his face full of hopeful anticipation.

“Eve, I’ve come to take you home.”

I didn’t take the flowers.

Maybe he genuinely forgot.

I’m allergic to pollen.

The person who likes roses is Clara.

I stepped back.

“I’m not going back with you.”
