“Eve, please don’t be like this.”
He stepped forward, trying to take my hand.
But I moved away from him.
He faltered slightly. He didn’t seem used to my rejection.
“Eve, you’ve changed.”
I laughed.
“This is the real me.”
I looked him straight in the eye.
“Adrian, I’ve already given you enough face. We were husband and wife. Let’s just part on decent terms.”
“No!”
Adrian panicked.
“I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have kept it from you. I shouldn’t have made the decision alone.”
“Give me another chance. I promise I’ll treat you right from now on.”
His words were still so empty.
I looked at him.
“You have someone else in your heart. How can you treat me right?”
“You want me to go back with you. It’s to go back to Switzerland and keep taking care of Clara, right?”
His face went pale instantly.
“I… I do have you in my heart…”
“Having me and having her aren’t mutually exclusive. Right?”
I said the words he hadn’t spoken for him.
“You want a capable wife to manage everything, and you want a gentle, sentimental first love waiting on standby. You think that’s perfect, don’t you?”
