West Coast East Heart Chapter 17

I don’t know when, but he hung up on his own.

The next time I heard about him was a year later.

Adrian was dead.

Marcus’s voice was shaking when he called.

“Clara was never an ordinary person. She was a spy working for a foreign intelligence agency. Her goal was to lure top research talent into their network for private military technology development.”

As it turned out, during her five years in Europe, Clara had already been turned.

Her marriage to Adrian, keeping him in Switzerland—it was all part of the mission.

Originally, her target was to trick me into going there too, but she failed.

Later, Adrian discovered who she really was and asked for a divorce. But Clara refused.

“If you dare leave, I’ll report you to the FBI. I’ll say you voluntarily leaked sensitive technology to a foreign entity. You’ll never be able to clear your name.”

A violent conflict broke out between them.

Afterward, Clara had a miscarriage. Adrian was arrested by local police for “domestic violence.”

Someone from that intelligence organization found him.

“Are you willing to officially join us? Become a member, and we can get you out.”

Adrian refused.

“I’d rather die than do something like that.”

Later, news of his death came out.

The official result released by the Swiss police was that he ended his own life while in custody.

As for the truth of what happened—who could really know, between all the lies and secrets?

Marcus sobbed brokenly on the phone.

“Before he died, he wrote a line on the wall with his own blood.”

“‘I want to go home.'”
