West Coast East Heart Chapter 16

West Coast East Heart Chapter 16

Two months later, Adrian and Clara got married.

He didn’t make a big announcement on social media. They just had a low-key wedding.

Later, under Clara’s referral, he joined a private research institution with a mysterious background. It exclusively served defense projects for a certain European country.

I knew we were destined to become strangers.

Possibly even rivals one day.

Late one night, half a year later, my encrypted phone suddenly rang.

I hesitated for a moment, but still answered.

He seemed drunk. His words were slurred and broken, laced with sobs.

“Eve… Evelyn, I regret it…”

I didn’t speak.

In the world of highly classified tech R&D, core personnel didn’t easily touch alcohol.

Somehow, he had broken that unwritten rule.

“Clara… she’s not what I thought… she used me…”

He rambled on and on, his voice getting smaller and more indistinct.

I couldn’t make out the rest.

I only heard him cry. He cried loudly.

In my heart, there wasn’t a single ripple.

Some people, once they’ve walked too far away, can never come back.
