You Thought My Turn Could Always Come Later Chapter 11
Chloe instinctively glanced toward the kitchen.
Megan came out, stepping in front of her daughter.
“She’s a kid, Ronan. She was joking. You can’t possibly believe her?”
“The inhaler.”
“What?”
“Did she crush Sabine’s inhaler on purpose?”
Megan’s expression darkened.
“So what if she did?”
“Chloe’s father died for you. If she’s a little spoiled, you should be able to handle it.”
Ronan stared at her, then let out a strange, broken laugh.
Tears streamed down his face as he did.
“So you knew. You knew she was lying all along.”
“That morning, you knew she spilled the milk herself.”
“When she pretended to be sick, you knew that, too.”
“Every single time she pulled me away from Sabine, you knew exactly what she was doing.”
Megan’s face hardened.
“I was just worried Chloe didn’t feel secure here.”
“So because she didn’t feel secure, she got to drive my daughter out of her own home?”
In a sudden movement, Ronan flipped the coffee table.
The iPad, the phone, the new toys—they all crashed to the floor.
Chloe screamed.
“You owe me for that! You bought it for me!”
Ronan pointed at the door.
“Get out.”
Megan stared, incredulous.
“You’re kicking us out?”
“My ex-husband died for you, and now you’re throwing his wife and daughter out on the street?”
Ronan’s voice shook with a grief that went beyond anger.
“I’ve supported both of you for years. I paid for Chloe’s school. I’ve been helping take care of your ex-husband’s parents.”
“What I owe him, I will continue to repay.”
“But Sabine doesn’t owe you a damn thing.”
“You used my guilt to bully my daughter, and you thought you were entitled to it.”
Megan let out a cold, sharp laugh.
“And now you want to play the good father?”
“You’re the one who bought the gloves. You bought the cake. You skipped the awards ceremony all on your own.”
“Did I hold a gun to your head?”
