You Thought My Turn Could Always Come Later Chapter 12

Those words struck Ronan silent.

It was his favoritism.

It was he who had chosen Chloe, over and over again.

Throwing Megan and her daughter out wouldn’t change what Sabine had already endured.

That night, while cleaning Sabine’s room, he found an old photo album in the bottom drawer of her nightstand.

On the first page was a picture of Sabine as a little girl, asleep on his back.

On the second, a photo of him in the old Honda, picking her up from school.

Tucked into the last sleeve was a sheet of notebook paper.

On it, in a child’s crooked handwriting, were the words:

*Daddy works so hard. I have to grow up fast so I can protect him.*

The page was dated three years ago.

Ronan sat on the floor, hugging the album to his chest, and cried through the night.

The next day, he drove to Boston again.

But the guard at the school gate gave him the same answer.

“Sabine’s instructions were clear.”

“She doesn’t want to see you.”
