You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 07
My mother looked down at the check, silent for a long moment.
After a few seconds, she asked in a dry voice, “Really? We only spent fifty thousand dollars on her all these years?”
That wasn’t even enough to buy one Rolls-Royce for Sofia.
My mother started crying again.
“Baby, don’t do this. We were just angry when we said that. How could we really not want you?”
She tried to stuff the check back into my hand.
“Take it back. We don’t need this little bit of money.”
I stepped back again.
“No, you should keep it. You used to refuse to let me spend a single extra dollar.”
“I imagine this money must be very important to you.”
My mother covered her mouth and sobbed.
My father quickly pulled her into his arms to comfort her.
Ronan frowned at me. “You want to cut ties with us now? Don’t forget, you still have college to think about. You don’t even have a place to live.”
“Who says she doesn’t?”
Miller, who had been silent, walked over and took my hand.
“I’m taking this child with me. Handing her over to social services would be better than letting her stay in this house.”
“What nonsense are you talking about?” my mother retorted.
“We’ve never abused her. We just wanted her to learn responsibility.”
“You have no idea how easily children from wealthy families can be spoiled.”
“This is our family business. You have no right to interfere.”
Miller looked at her, her voice cold.
“If that’s true, then why can the girl standing behind you spend money so freely?”
Everyone fell silent.
