You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 08

Sofia wasn’t my parents’ biological daughter.

She was the daughter of my father’s best friend from his time in the Marines.

Her mother had also been an old friend of my mother’s.

After Sofia’s parents died in an accident, my parents brought her into our home.

They always told me Sofia was fragile and needed more care than I did.

I believed them, so I was always good to her.

Once, in the middle of the night, she decided she wanted a cake from a dessert shop twenty miles away. I drove out to get it for her.

That night, just after I got home, Sofia fell down the stairs.

I rushed her to the hospital.

When my parents arrived, Sofia threw herself into their arms and cried nonstop.

“I really didn’t mean to steal your love from Amaris. I know I’m not your real daughter.”

“If she doesn’t like me, I can just leave.”

From that day on, the way my parents looked at me changed.

After that, things that had once been mine were given to Sofia, one by one.

Sometime later, Sofia came to me and admitted it.

“I did it on purpose that day. I knew you’d give in and go buy me that cake in the middle of the night.”

“The fall was fake, too. I just didn’t expect it to work even better than I’d planned.”

Back then, I still tried to argue and explain.

But Sofia just turned around and tearfully threatened to run away from home.

From then on, no one in the family would listen to a word I said.

They were convinced I was just making up stories to hurt her.
